Daya Bay & Ling Ao Nuclear Power Plants

The Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant – a showcase of French–Chinese cooperation and a blueprint for future developments.

Between 1984 and 1994, the China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN) contracted EDF to use its engineering know-how to undertake the construction and commissioning of two pressurised water reactors (PWR) – each with 1,000 MW capacity – at the Daya Bay nuclear power plant in Guangdong province.

The excellent performance of this power plant has become one of EDF’s most impressive reference in China, and EDF remains involved in operations at Daya Bay through assistance contracts.

Following Daya Bay’s success, EDF provided several dozen engineers to assist and advise local managers on the construction and operation of the Ling Ao power plant units commissioned in May 2002 and January 2003.

In addition, EDF regularly shares its expertise in on–off operations with other Chinese nuclear power operators.
